CILFYNYDD AIKIDO CLUB RHONDDA, WALES The Club was founded by Sensei Peter 20'th May 1999. Practice at Cilfynydd Aikido is friendly, informal but intense with an emphasis on sound basic techniques, flexibility and fitness at initial kyu grade, developing style and power in higher grades. The club promotes a friendly co-operative atmosphere in which senior grades are always willing to take time to work intensively with lower grades, helping to establish solid foundations. The club places high value on weapons practice, primarily following the Shin Gi Tai weapons syllabus with some Iwama-ryu based jo and bokken katas, which when combined with ki development exercises helps develop great stability and potent striking/throwing power. Randori (free-style) practice is used to sharpen practical skills. Junior classes are based on the projection techniques and weapons katas from the Shin Gi Tai syllabus combined with fitness and flexibility exercises. The emphasis is on fun and positive encouragement with respect for people of all degrees of talent. The club encourages a collective attendance at Society courses. The Torquay weekends have become legendary - "however hard you party you still have to train the following day" Sensei Thomas. E-mail:
